Jim Brown set up J De Bruyn in 1978 as a distributor of Forbo-Krommenie and Laybond products, located in Forest Gate, East London.

​

We moved to our current site on the Orient Industrial Park in Leyton in 1982.

​

Our company was appointed Forbo-Nairns major U.K. stock-list in 1985, following the Forbo group's acquisition of Nairn, from Unilever.

​

Over the years we have gone from strength to strength with our Title and Design cutting facility, let alone our well-known stock holding of Forbo contract floor coverings.

In July 1989, Jim appointed Tony Hammond as Financial Director of J De Bruyn, to work alongside John Cordery as Production Director. It was an astute decision by Jim to bring Tony into the fold due to Tony's wealth of experience and knowledge in the banking world. He began to steer the company to a more profitable and productive direction.

Sadly in December 2002, Jim passed away and was survived by his wife Jean. Tony was asked to become the Managing Director of J De Bruyn, seeing him invest his own capital into the company. In the years since his appointment, J De Bruyn has excelled. He has overseen the company turn over a profit year on year, including navigating through the extremely challenging Covid period of trading, along with loyal support and commitment from all of De Bruyn's past and current members of staff.

Tony's son, Alex, began to take a more active role in the day to day running of J De Bruyn following the retirement of John Cordery in February 2022.
